Katy Perry and Russell Brand have reached a settlement in their divorce. The settlement follows the divorce filing by Brand on December 30. It has been reported that the settlement was amicable, and that Perry signed her name at the bottom of the document with a smiley face and heart.

Brand, 36, filed for divorce after the couple had been separated. The couple had been married for a little more than a year. They married in India in October 2010. The divorce involved much less fanfare than the wedding, which included elephants and tigers in the guests and gifts.

People magazine reported that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, but that Brand did not want half of Perry's money that she earned during their marriage, even though he would have been entitled to that under the community property laws of their state of residence.

It is not known why the couple divorced beyond the cited reason of "irreconcilable differences." Some of speculated that the lifestyles of the two celebrities did not mesh as Brand is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic while Perry is still a partier.

Brand also frequently made fun of Perry's deeply Christian parents, reportedly, which she is said to have not taken well. So, the couple probably had some problems that many average couples go through as well as the issue of being ambitious jet-setting celebrities with probably not much time for the marriage.

The divorce becomes official on July 14.
